Small Claims Court is a special part of the court where you can sue for money without a lawyer. You cannot sue to make someone do something or for pain and suffering. Important to know: •You may file a claim in the Pierrepont Town Court for any amount up to and including $3,000. •The person/persons against whom you are filing a claim must either live in or operate a business in the Town of Pierrepont. You will need a correct mailing address. A small claim action cannot be filed using a Post Office Box number. •Corporations and partnerships cannot initiate a small claims action in Justice Court. •A small claim form is available to print for your convenience. However, you must file the claim in person at the court clerk's office. Call the Court Office ahead to make an appointment at 315-379-0415. •Filing fee (Payment can be made in the form of cash, check or credit card (all credit card payments carry a service fee): •claim in the amount of $1 to $1000 is $10 •claim in the amount of $1001 to $3000 is $15 You can sue for up to $5,000 in City Courts or up to $3,000 in Town and Village Courts.
